- What is Remote Desktop?
- Why is Remote Desktop useful?
- A remote desktop is highly useful when you need to do some work on your office PC from home.
- Not only does it save you from having to take a backup home, and remember to restore it when you return, but 2 or more people can work at home on Omni simultaneously like you can in the office.
- Also, apart from Omni, ALL your other normal office applications are available to you, such a Microsoft Office, email, etc. which you might not have installed on your home PC.
- What is the difference between Remote Desktop and Terminal Services?
- Remote desktop comes free with Windows. It does have the limitation though, that only one person can be using that office PC at a time. (which is fine for most people, who just want to do some work from home after hours).
- Terminal Services is very similar but is a program that runs on a Windows Server, and you pay per licence. It allows multiple people to all be logged on to the same server, without knowing they are all using the same machine, as they each have their own environment. NB. The users still log on remotely to the server using the same Remote Desktop program on their PCs. This could be useful if you have reps in the field that never come into the office, so you do not want to have an extra PC for each of them in the office. Some of our dealers even host all the users for an entire company in this fashion, saving the company from having a server on their premises at all.
- Does my client I am logging on from also need to be a windows PC?
- How do I delete accounts?
- Do an account enquiry to locate the account, or else list all accounts.
- Select the account you would like to delete, and then click the red cross on the grid’s toolbar.
- If the account can be deleted it will be, otherwise, if it can only be deactivated then it will be deactivated.
- If it cannot be deactivated or deleted, then you will get a message telling you why.
- Why can I only deactivate an account, and not delete it?
- Accounts that have transactions posted against them, cannot be deleted. If they do not have a balance though, then they can be deactivated.
- Deactivation is much the same as deletion from the end user’s point of view, the only difference being that deactivated accounts can still be reported on. Deactivated accounts can be reactivated again if necessary.
- How do I reactivate a deactivated account?
- Do an account enquiry to locate the account, or else list all accounts.
- To see inactive accounts, click on the filter button on the toolbar.
- Put a tick in “Show Inactive” and then click Find.
- Find the inactive account, and edit it by double-clicking it.
- There will be an “Is Active” checkbox. Tick it, and save the account.
- The account is now active again.
